Oliver's 1st Birthday
For those of you who don't already know, Oliver and I have the same birthday!  One of the many reasons why we adopted this beast.  So of course I had to celebrate his very first birthday.  Me turning 24 is no big deal, but my dog turning ONE is a HUGE deal.  I had to throw Oliver a birthday party, complete with a birthday cake and his best friend, Smokey!  My mom was awesome enough to come down to North Carolina for Oliver and my birthday!

I'm pretty sure I've talked about how awesome my mom is before, but just let me be clear.  My mom is hands down the BEST mother a girl could ask for.  She packed up her car and headed down south to celebrate her little girl's birthday.  We started out fun filled Friday with doing all things that young adults like to do and that was grocery shopping.  I promise I don't purposely look poor when my mom comes down, I just am poor and can't afford all the fun foods that I enjoy.  My mom fills up my fridge everytime she comes down and that's pretty awesome.  With that grocery store trip we got stuff to bake Oliver a birthday cake (recipe listed below).  Talk about cuteness!  We also got him party hats and my mom got him a big bone for his birthday.  Friday night my mom took me and Gabe out to dinner and I crossed something off my bucket list and had a tequila shot that was on fire.  I didn't get to keep the sombrao though not for a lack of trying.

Saturday morning my mom and I ran more errands and got some apartment neccessities that I was in desperate need of.  We also did some Christmas shopping for Omar (since he was coming home the following week he had a second Christmas to come home too).  We also made a trip to Ulta and updated our makeup collection and got a fresh new haircut!  When we came back home we baked Oliver's cake and threw him a birthday party complete with a trip to the dog park.  I mean, how cute is his little face when he saw his cake?

On Sunday we headed to Wilmington with the pups for a stroll on the Riverwalk.  Downtown Wilmington is such a cute place with shops and restaurants.  My mom and I ate at this little French cafe and it blew us away!  Seriously, if you guys are ever in the area you MUST eat there.  The food was perfection! Plus, everyone takes their dog.  My mom got Oliver and I a go pro harness to hook up to Oliver.  I couldn't resist playing with it when we went to Wilmington.  Then Sunday evening came and my mom and Smokey had to head back home.  I seriously hate how short weekends are because I could have used another million days with my mama.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, no matter how old you get a girl always needs her mom.

Dog Cake Recipe:

Ingredients

Cake
1 cup of flour
1/2 tsp of baking powder
1/8 cup of vegetable oil
1/4 cup of peanut butter
1/2 can of pumpkin puree
1 egg

Frosting
1/2 cup of plain yogurt
1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/2 can of pumpkin puree
a few dog biscuits

Decorations
Milkbones
Shreeded Cheese

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder. vegetable oil, pumpkin puree, egg, and peanut butter until it's all combined (just like when you bake a cake).
3.  Pour mixture into a container and put into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until you stick a toothpick and the center comes out clean.
4.  Allow to cool before adding frosting.

For the frosting combine all of the ingredients into a blender until satisifed with the consistency.  Spread over the cake.  Then add the milk bones along the side of the cake and sprinkle the shreeded cheese like sprinkles.

Thanks for a great weekend Mama Katz!  I love  you and miss you already!
