Closet Clean-Out!
Do you ever feel like you just need to refresh things around the house? That is how I was feeling one day when I took everything out of the walk-in closet. The way the closet was organized simply wasn't functional. I needed to change that.

Like I said, the first thing I did was just take everything...and yes, I a mean everything.. out of the closet. I vacuumed the carpet, wiped down the cabinets and re-washed everything. Does this sound obsessive? It is. That's okay. In a post, soon-to-come, you'll see that one of my goals for 2020 is to get rid of half my stuff including clothes. I went cut-throat with my clothes and really decided if this item was something I was ever going to wear again. I made Omar do the same thing and one way I got him to get rid of a lot of stuff was that any money we made from selling our clothes we would use as "Christmas shopping money." Which you can totally shop my Poshmark and Mercari (offering free shipping on Mercari).

Halloween Pop-Up Museum

This was a very pleasant not-so-planned blog post. My friend, Ana, found out that there was this Halloween pop-up museum at Tyson's Galleria for the past couple months so we decided to get tickets before it closed. This was super exciting for us because pop-up museums don't really happen around here often. They're normally in D.C. with long lines or all the way in Maryland. To have one here in the mall just a few minutes from my apartment was rare and we had to take advantage of it.

The American Scream Museum was awesome. It was reasonably price and highlighted a ton of the classic horror films, t.v. shows and other creepy Halloween accents. It also wasn't crowded at all. I don't know if that was because it was the last day or the time of day we got our tickets for, but we got to take our time with each section and get some really good photos. Anyways, the photos speak for themselves and this isn't really a description post so let's get to the good stuff!

October Recap

I know I usually say that the months are flying by, but October did not feel that way, but that's okay because I love this time of year. I loved seeing everyones Halloween costumes, decorations and obviously all of the candy! Something else that happened just last week was my mom's 50th birthday. I spent months planning this and with everyones help we pulled off an incredible party.
Mom's Classic Pooh Bear Themed Birthday

I'll start this blog with a disclaimer, I did not fully listen to my mother when she said "No Surprises," but it was for the greater good. I did promise my mom that it would not be a big surprise party with a bunch of tacky birthday decorations. I rounded up the troops to plan an intimate, classy and Pooh Bear themed birthday for Mama Katz. Huge shout out to my dad, Patrick (my brother) & Ana (brother's gf), my Aunt Maryland and my grandma for all of their help. I let my mom control [most] of the guest list, but I also invited some relatives who don't live in Virginia weeks ago to surprise her. Everyone deserves to be surrounded by people who love them on their special day.

My dad helped me decide on a winery and he booked a private room complete with an indoor and outdoor area. Since we weren't doing a typical 50-themed birthday, we kept it simple, classy and surrounded by things and people that she loves. Pooh Bear is very special to my mom, but we were very specific with using the classic Pooh versus the modern day one. We went with soft yellow decor pieces, glass votives with candles and vases with fresh yellow and white flowers as the center pieces for tables. My grandma and I got really lucky because we stopped by a yard sale and we grabbed 4 vases and 11 votives, then at the dollar store I got 10 more votives. My mom loves candles and fresh flowers, so I knew this had to be apart of the theme. I also saw this idea on Pinterest where the vases were sitting on top of Pooh Bear books. So I went to a used book store and grabbed some Pooh books. Between yard sales and the thrift store I was able to find a ton of Pooh Bear stuffed animals and spread them throughout the party.

Another thing we did was focus on the food. We didn't want my mom to worry about anything so we got one of her favorite restaurants catered and Patrick & Ana were on cake duty. We also got a whole case (12 bottles) of wine from the winery with our reservation which was amazing. I also grabbed a cheese flight, grapes, crackers and prosciutto from Costco for a nice charcuterie board. We saw a lot of cake inspo on Pinterest because again, it had to be Pooh Bear themed. Ana's friend made the cake and it came out so incredible (View Sandra's Instagram for custom cakes). The cake was actually my mom's favorite, German Chocolate Cake, and it was bomb af!

L.A. On Film
A few years ago my mom cleaned out her office and came across some old film cameras. I easily kept them and let them sit in my camera bag for a while before taking them to a camera store to get cleaned up. Something I have been loving lately is using film over digital. Not that I really know what I'm doing but I just remember being younger and getting film developed was like a mini gift to myself. Of course like everything else, film cameras are becoming trendy again so I thought doing a LA on film blog post would be super cool and maybe even start a series. Not all of these photos were taking in Los Angeles of course, but LA on film just sounded catchier. Here's the film and polaroid pictures that we took during our trip!
