Updates To The Apartment

I shared my Falls Church Apartment Tour a few weeks back and man were those post way overdue. There's literally snow on the ground in the YouTube videos so you can tell it's been a while since I recorded those videos and took my time editing the post *phew.* Now that that's out of the way, I can share with you updates we've made to the apartment since I recorded those videos. A home is never truly done and who knows maybe in a few months I'll have even more updates, until then though here's some of the things we've added to our apartment since I posted my apartment tour.

So in the living room we updated quite a bit that make a huge difference to the ambiance of the living room. I have been wanting a floor length mirror for a while, but I couldn't find one that fit both mine and Omar's style. If it was my choice it would have been a really expensive, no frame, mirror that touched the ceiling, but Omar didn't like that style and let's be honest it wasn't in our budgetšŸ™ƒ. Nonetheless, we found this one for $50 at Home Goods and I just love it. We fit it in our bar cart corner and whenever I want to take cute blog post, I throw this white shag rug down to add some oomph to it. Then I found these pillows from TJ Maxx that match our living room rug PERFECTLY. I was so shocked that I found two of these and their comfortable and make the perfect nap spot on our couch now. They were $50 for both pillows! The floor lamp is something we desperately needed in the living room. The living room and bedroom don't have overhead lights, which is really weird, and make a struggle for when we have get-togethers. The reason it took us so long to find the right lighting is because again, Omar and I have very different styles. I stopped by Target one day after work though and as I was browsing the light section I saw this floor lamp for $70 that just matched the aesthetic of our apartment. The tan shade matched our couch and the metal stand matched our dining room table and bar cart. It just worked perfectly and I love the fact that the clicker is on the floor and you can step on it to turn it on or off. Above the couch we have a 16x20 poster frame that I put all of our polaroid pictures in. I absolutely loveeee this piece. It's the perfect way to show off pictures (especially the fact that polaroids are small and hard to show off) but also not have a ton of photos around the home. Omar and I both agree that we don't care for a lot of picture frames around the apartment. I put together this super simple DIY (view that blog post here) and it was time to update it. I have taken so many pictures since then (thanks to Amazon bulk ordering of the film) and I had to get a bigger poster frame to add those pictures to it. This transfer was super easy because I just put the new pictures around the already put together collage. The bar cart has seen some changes too, we're constantly getting new bottles that help change up the bar cart, but some recent finds that I wanted to highlight were these gold-rimmed champagne glasses (set of 6) that I found at The Salvation Army when I went to Pennsylvania. Then, my mom got me this gold champagne bottle because we had some good news to celebrate☺️. The next thing that's new on the bar cart is something I actually got in my Fab Fit Fun Spring Box which is the essential oil diffuser. I don't know if I believe in that oils can affect your mood, but it does smell good! I get cheap oils from TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Gabe's most of the time (please make sure you get oils that are safe for your dog too) and the oil diffuser changes color which adds some fun to a fun bar cart. The only change that has happened to the kitchen is this plug-in ceramic wax melter. I got this at Gabe's and use my favorite wax, Glade's Cashmere Woods. Incase you can't tell, I love things that smell good.

Like I mentioned earlier, most of the updates have been to the living room, but I have added a few new things to the other part of the apartment. You can view the bedroom, bathroom and closet tour by clicking this link here. In the bedroom I feel that only new things is a wall plug ceramic wax melter by my nightstand, again I just love things that smell good. Then I got Omar the Nintendo Switch for our anniversary and he keeps it in the bedroom for the most part. When we have friends over we switch (pun intended) it to the living room, but we love having it in the bedroom and play Mario Kart together in bed. It's so fun! In the bathroom we changed up our shower curtain because it's been a year since we moved in and the white one just got dirty and the rings started to break, so I found a new grey shower curtain at Gabe's. I also got a Ralph Lauren white bath mat to switch out with the grey one when that gets dirty. In the closet, man this closet.. we are constantly cleaning out our closet and finding new ways to organize it. I haven't truly found a way to organize my shoes and I've gone from a shoe rack to plastic containers and now to this hanging shoe rack. I got the stepping stool because our closet utilizes the height in our space but I am short so I can't reach the top shelves. The plastic 3-drawer bin on the top used to be on the bottom as well as the white shoe rack that I've had since our first apartment. It used to be at the bottom, but we moved things around as I said and cleaned up the space a bit. Since we are constantly cleaning out our closet I decided to make a Poshmark (view my Poshmark closet by clicking here). I wish I made a Poshmark back before Christmas when I cleaned out the closet because I gave away so much and got little to no money at Plato's Closet. Lesson learned, check out my Poshmark because I'm constantly adding to it!

I also have gotten a ton of new candles, books and vinyl records but that's just an everyday thing. Anytime I shop I try to do collective hauls, I shared my favorite candles on this blog post here, and I'll be sharing my entire book and vinyl collection soon, so stay tuned!
