Closet Clean-Out!

Do you ever feel like you just need to refresh things around the house? That is how I was feeling one day when I took everything out of the walk-in closet. The way the closet was organized simply wasn't functional. I needed to change that.

Like I said, the first thing I did was just take everything...and yes, I a mean everything.. out of the closet. I vacuumed the carpet, wiped down the cabinets and re-washed everything. Does this sound obsessive? It is. That's okay. In a post, soon-to-come, you'll see that one of my goals for 2020 is to get rid of half my stuff including clothes. I went cut-throat with my clothes and really decided if this item was something I was ever going to wear again. I made Omar do the same thing and one way I got him to get rid of a lot of stuff was that any money we made from selling our clothes we would use as "Christmas shopping money." Hangers | Laundry Detergent | Cinnamon Broomstick | Storage Cubes  

After we took everything out, the first thing we decided to do was put things into separate piles to donate, to sell and to wash. We needed to wash a lot of our clothes because of the dog hair and also because when my mom gave me some of that amazing Diva scent laundry detergent I did a load of laundry using it and my clothes smelt incredible. I wanted everything to smell incredible so I did a weeks worth of laundry to make that happen. I also wanted everything to be more uniform and that starts with matching hangers. That might not be a big deal to some people, but I wanted to switch to simple black plastic hangers. I am so over the velvet hanger fad. These hangers suck! They get lint all over them, break very easily and for no reason are expensive. No thanks. I bought a pack of 50 black plastic hangers, more of the Diva Laundry Detergent and 2 more of those pop-up cubicles off of Amazon to complete this closet transition. Another thing I did was get rid of that over-the-door shoe hanger. It kept getting in the way of the clothes behind the door so I kept the top one for my work shoes and then moved my casual shoes to the bottom racks.

I am beyond pleased with how this transformation came out. Now we can both easily access our clothes and accessories without getting in the way of one another.
