Our Road Trip From California To Arizona Part One: Malibu

Hello all the way from Malibu, California! We flew to LAX the other day and drove straight to Malibu for the first destination on this trip. If you're a little confused, let me back up. My cousin was supposed to get married in August so my other cousin Stephanie and I–plus our boyfriends–booked our flights and hotel so we could be there for her big day....and then the pandemic hit and everything sort of shifted. As we waited to see what would fluctuate in our plans, we decide we still wanted to go on our trip. For all of us this was our only vacation for the year and my cousin starts nursing school this fall so it's her last trip probably for a while. We wanted to make the most of it. Please note: We followed all CDC guidelines and safety precautions while traveling.

Since there was no longer a wedding we needed schedule our vacation around we decided to turn this into a mini "road trip." We have three destinations we will be staying at during this trip with lots of driving to other places as well. The first stop was Malibu, California. I had never been so I was very excited to visit the infamous Malibu. We stayed at this hotel called The M Malibu. Don't let the Google ratings fool you, this place is perfect for twenty-year olds who don't need a lot of space and doesn't really plan on being in their hotel room much. Which we weren't. It was super retro yet modern, great price and right across the street was the beach. It was walking distance to everything we needed, it was perfect.

The first day, right after we landed at LAX we were all starving so the first thing we did was get some tacos. Then once we checked into our hotel, well I can't even lie we were pretty jet lagged and took a nap. After that though, we walked around saw the famous NOBU restaurant that celebrities are always eating at and saw paparazzi waiting outside for someone too. We took a sunset stroll on the beach and then had a rooftop dinner at D'Amore's pizza. The rest of the night we pretty much hung out in our rooms.

On the second day we decided to drive to Santa Monica for a beach day. There was literally something there for everyone. Travis (Stephanie's boyfriend) got to slack line, we all got to walk on the Santa Monica Pier for some ice cream and we all got really, really sunburnt. After the beach we quickly showered and got ready and went to dinner at MoonShadows in Malibu. The restaurant is gorgeous. Just about every table has a view overlooking the ocean. As we sat down and as we paid the check we saw dolphins in the ocean. It was truly breathtaking.

On our last day in Malibu, we checked out of the hotel and right next to the hotel is the UNUM Headquarters (I think) so I had to take a quick pic there. Then we had brunch at Marmalade's Cafe. I LOVE BRUNCH. The great priced food and mimosas, ugh. Just heavenly. After we got our brunch buzz on we went across the street to the Malibu Lagoon. We spent a couple hours there and it was so nice. The surfers were out, the water wasn't too cold and it was a great way to chill out after brunch. Then came the road trip to Temecula. We thought this would only take a couple hours, but our naive tourist ways and lack of knowledge of LA traffic proved us wrong. Almost FIVE hours later, we were at our AirBnB in Temecula. You'll have to stay tuned for the next blog post though.

Talk to you when we're in Temecula!

xoxo, Michele
