I love shopping. Better yet, I love shopping for other people. I love giving gifts and seeing an item and just going "Ah, they will love this." Which means I love Christmas shopping. It's actually one of my favorite things to do. Black Friday is always so much fun and I even love creating the perfect gifts for people I love. However, holiday shopping can get pricey, especially if you're not budgeting or shopping the sales. So, today I'm sharing how I budget and save money during the holiday season.
1. Cashback Apps–I have shared my favorite Cashback apps before, but it really pays off during the holidays. I save all my "cashback" items (such as an Amazon gift card from Receipt Hog) and use those gift cards or points or well "cash" rewards until the end of the year to use them on Christmas shopping.
2. Thrifting–Thrifting is awesome year round. Plus let's say you happen to be thrifting in July but found a great item that you know someone will love for Christmas. You feel less guilty buying it in advance because it was so cheap. I have two bags filled of gifts for my soon-to-be niece and I didn't pay full price for any of it.
3. Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Other Sales–SHOP THE SALES! I can't stress that enough. I love going Black Friday shopping because it's simply a tradition I have with my family now, but don't go at 4 a.m. or anything like that. We usually wake up around ten then get Starbucks then walk around the mall. I always find a good deal on something and I always stop by my favorite stores (like the Soffee store) to get the deals they have every year (buy one, get one 50% off) and stock up on my favorites (silkie shorts for my boyfriend). It's just ridiculous to buy things full price (especially pricey items) when you can get such a good deal on them after Thanksgiving.
4. Stick To A Budget–This is always easier said then done, but I give myself a limit of how much I'm allowed to spend. If I could, I would buy my loved ones the world, but I'm broke so I have to be smart with my money. I don't buy little things by the register, I don't overspend on items and I always track how much I'm spending. I give myself a limit and I'm not allowed to go past that. Which means I also have to get creative when it comes to gifts because I have a lot of people I shop for.
5. Get Creative–Shutterfly is my go-to for gifts! I used to work for Lifetouch/Shutterfly so I get really good discounts on items (but also they have year-round discounts) and I'll get creative and create a sentimental gift that I know my friends and family will love.
6. Make A List–And check it twice! I hate me too, it's okay. But seriously I have a whole secret Pinterest board dedicated to things I would like to get my friends and family. I plan, plan, plan and make lists after lists after lists. I don't like to just walk into a store and buy one of everything, I like to get curated items for each person and you can only do that when you plan in advance!
