3 Ways To Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer

I can't believe it's March and I'm already talking about summer. Truth be told, it's been in the high 80s most of the month down here in Central Florida so it's basically summer as far as I'm concerned. Which means my dog has shed his winter coat and it's time to play outside!

I have a husky (for those who didn't know) and despite what most people think, huskies love the sun! He would lay outside all day if he could. His double coat actually helps to keep him cool, but still, when we touch his paw pads or the top of his back if he feels pretty warm, we have a few ways to cool him down.

1. Pools—We purchased him a plastic $10 pool from Wal-Mart and he loves it. We throw some small treats inside and it's as if he's bobbing for apples as he sticks his whole face in to grab them ๐Ÿ˜‚. This is a very inexpensive way to give your down his own space to cool down as needed.

2. Splash Pads—I wasn't sure how Oliver was going to handle this one given that he hates rain, but once I pushed him through it a few times he seemed to like it. He really likes the center of it more than the actual "splashing" part, but whatever makes him happy.

3. Cooling Mats—We keep this bad boy outside so he can lay on it whenever he feels too hot. This mat stays cool to the touch no matter what, and it's quickly become his favorite place to lay on the pool deck.
