Apartment Tour: Sunroom/Office

I know, I know.  This blog post is way over due.  Omar and I moved into our cozy little home over a year ago, but if I'm being honest having an apartment is a lot of work!  Especially if you're a blogger and you want everything to be perfect before sharing it with the world.  However, your home is never perfect.  You are constantly changing and adding things to make it more yours.  That's exactly what happened.  Even though we bought furniture, got a dog, broke some things, hung up some things, and so much more it never really stops becoming a home.  So that's why, after a deep clean of course, I was ready to share my apartment with all of you.

I'm going to be breaking this up into a few differnet posts because the apartment is actually kind of big with a lot of details.  I'm starting with the sunroom (aka the office and Lumpy's room).  In our apartment complex you can choose if you want a balcony or a sunroom and the sunroom adds extra room and storage.  Plus, it's perfect for Lumpy because he loves the sun!

Most of our furniture is from Ikea and I have tried to link everything that I possibly could below.  However, most of this stuff is a collection of things throughout the years so I might not have everything linked!  In the office we have my desk (Ikea) and chair (Ikea) with all of our notebookes, harddrives, and extra wires hidden away.  There is also my Kate Spade book (thanks Gabe!), a Tiffany & Co. bag filled with polaroids, and a super easy shadow box diy!  Next to it is Omar's 3-bin plastic drawer that has all of Omar's paperwork and the last drawer has all of our apartment paperwork.  On top of the bin is two very large Tiffany & Co. boxes that containted the most amazing crystal bowls I got for Christmas from my Aunt Maryland.  They're too pretty to hide in a closet though!  Down by my chair is my camera bag and of course my awesome R2D2 trashcan my mom got me for Christmas.  To the right you will see the bookcase (Ikea) that matches my desk and other pieces of furniture.  Of course I have WAYYY more books than whats pictured, it holds quite a bit.  I have my printer and record player (thanks Ro!) that are easily accessible without being in the way.  On top of my bookcase I have tons of pictures, a mood board, decor, and camera equipment.  I did a blog post earlier on my bookcase that you can view here.  This is also Oliver's favorite spot to hide his ball under.  On the other side of the wall is Lumpy's cage which is perfect for him because the sun hits him even if it's cold outside.  Hedgehogs don't do cold so that's why the sun room is perfect for him!  Above Lumpy's cage are a ton of awards and certificates that Omar and I have recieved.  I also have one from my grandpa in the center and I love it!  Above my desk are pictures that my mom made for me after I got back home from Arizona a couple summers ago.  Lastly, by the bookcase is the hedgehog calendar my dad got me for christmas and the hedgehog picture frame my mom got me.  We also have a couple plants in the window to make sure they get enough sunlight.  There is also a HUGE closet where we keep our summer/winter clothes, Omar's Marine equipment, luggage and boxes.

Oliver's 1st Birthday
For those of you who don't already know, Oliver and I have the same birthday!  One of the many reasons why we adopted this beast.  So of course I had to celebrate his very first birthday.  Me turning 24 is no big deal, but my dog turning ONE is a HUGE deal.  I had to throw Oliver a birthday party, complete with a birthday cake and his best friend, Smokey!  My mom was awesome enough to come down to North Carolina for Oliver and my birthday!

I'm pretty sure I've talked about how awesome my mom is before, but just let me be clear.  My mom is hands down the BEST mother a girl could ask for.  She packed up her car and headed down south to celebrate her little girl's birthday.  We started out fun filled Friday with doing all things that young adults like to do and that was grocery shopping.  I promise I don't purposely look poor when my mom comes down, I just am poor and can't afford all the fun foods that I enjoy.  My mom fills up my fridge everytime she comes down and that's pretty awesome.  With that grocery store trip we got stuff to bake Oliver a birthday cake (recipe listed below).  Talk about cuteness!  We also got him party hats and my mom got him a big bone for his birthday.  Friday night my mom took me and Gabe out to dinner and I crossed something off my bucket list and had a tequila shot that was on fire.  I didn't get to keep the sombrao though not for a lack of trying.

Saturday morning my mom and I ran more errands and got some apartment neccessities that I was in desperate need of.  We also did some Christmas shopping for Omar (since he was coming home the following week he had a second Christmas to come home too).  We also made a trip to Ulta and updated our makeup collection and got a fresh new haircut!  When we came back home we baked Oliver's cake and threw him a birthday party complete with a trip to the dog park.  I mean, how cute is his little face when he saw his cake?

On Sunday we headed to Wilmington with the pups for a stroll on the Riverwalk.  Downtown Wilmington is such a cute place with shops and restaurants.  My mom and I ate at this little French cafe and it blew us away!  Seriously, if you guys are ever in the area you MUST eat there.  The food was perfection! Plus, everyone takes their dog.  My mom got Oliver and I a go pro harness to hook up to Oliver.  I couldn't resist playing with it when we went to Wilmington.  Then Sunday evening came and my mom and Smokey had to head back home.  I seriously hate how short weekends are because I could have used another million days with my mama.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, no matter how old you get a girl always needs her mom.

Dog Cake Recipe:

Ingredients

Cake
1 cup of flour
1/2 tsp of baking powder
1/8 cup of vegetable oil
1/4 cup of peanut butter
1/2 can of pumpkin puree
1 egg

Frosting
1/2 cup of plain yogurt
1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/2 can of pumpkin puree
a few dog biscuits

Decorations
Milkbones
Shreeded Cheese

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder. vegetable oil, pumpkin puree, egg, and peanut butter until it's all combined (just like when you bake a cake).
3.  Pour mixture into a container and put into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until you stick a toothpick and the center comes out clean.
4.  Allow to cool before adding frosting.

For the frosting combine all of the ingredients into a blender until satisifed with the consistency.  Spread over the cake.  Then add the milk bones along the side of the cake and sprinkle the shreeded cheese like sprinkles.

Thanks for a great weekend Mama Katz!  I love  you and miss you already!
