September Recap

September was a really good month! I weather got cooler, the fall decorations started to come out and the oversized sweaters came out of the drawers. I upgraded my photography for my blog, applied to grad school (stay tuned for that announcement), found out I'm going to be an aunt and ended the month with a cousin trip to the lake! It was a month on self-reflection and really diving into my emotions and wanting to better myself. I think overall, September was good, and I'm really looking forward to what October brings.

Highs & Lows
Highs: I am overwhelmed to announce this, but I found out this month that I'm going to be an aunt!! My brother and his wonderful girlfriend are expecting a little baby girl in March and I have already spent so much money on her. I have been filled with so many emotions the past few weeks and it's not even my kid! I just can't wait to be the best aunt ever.

Lows: Oof, something I share sometimes, but maybe not enough is my anxiety. It seems like a lot of my high highs this month got knocked out by a lot of low lows. And it's not even a certain situation that triggered it, it's really just a bunch of little things that took a huge toll on my mental health this month. I don't know, I'm really missing just having some sort of normalcy to my schedule, but then again, I love the flexibility of working from home the past few months.

Favorites

Hello Body Glow Pink Body Scrub // shared this in a blog post earlier this month and I am MORE obsessed than I was a month ago. When I say that this product smells delicious like I mean it takes everything not to eat it. Click here to read my review on Hello Body products!

"Get Organized with The Home Edit" on Netflix // I've been following The Home Edit for the longest time, but when I saw this show pop up on my Netflix feed I binged the entire first season in less than 4-days. I am OBSESSED and we need more episodes now.

Midnight Sun // So I kind of forgot how much of an influencer the Twilight books had on my little heart, but this version from Edward's point of view is too much for me to take.

20 MK&A Olsen Outfits I'd Wear Today // Self promo happening here, but I was soo proud of this blog post. I'm just obsessed with my own work–and the Olsen Twins style of course.

Memes // I always find the best "memes" or funny social media posts and some months I just share my favorite ones. "I'm dramatic," Dog turns 16, "I've got my life together," Highway Patrol staff headshots, "My neighbor said hi to me," dog on the news, and  talks too much report cards.

The Mandalorian // SEASON 2 IS COMING IN JUST A MONTH AND I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE BABY YODA AGAIN!

90's Stores // These 90's stores that you forgot existed, but definitely remember loving!

Retro Phones // I love seeing old tech stuff especially tech items I grew up with. The football phone, the clear phone.. all of these now retro phones are seriously sparking some major joy.

EMPTIES: Products I've Used Up This Month

I have seen these posts done before, but I never did one of my own because I can't keep track of the products I use. And I definitely don't use enough products in a month, but after I cleaned out my mom's bathroom and got tons of leftover products she's barely touched. I also recently dyed my hair so in order to make the hair last as long as possible. So I got a lot of products to test out this month and turns out, a lot of empty bottles to share and review.

Weekend Lake Trip With The Cousins

About a month ago one of my cousins, Walker, had a great idea to do a cousin only (no aunts or uncles, basically no parents) allowed. It was such a great idea and one that has started a new tradition. My mom always used to tell stories how she would spend summers with her cousins and I always envied that. I felt I only got to see my cousins when we had family events, but why is that? We're all older now, have our own cars our own lives and our own funds to travel. I loved this idea and was so excited that most of us were able to get together this time.

We decided to do a lake trip for the weekend with all the cousins and our significant others. We shot guns, rode the golf cart, checked out an abandoned house, had a photo shoot, made a fire and ate s'mores and of course played a ton of drinking games. I loved being able to spend some quality time with my cousins. This sparked the idea to make this a yearly thing (and decided to plan it out further in advanced so everyone can make it this time, because even though it was Walker's idea he wasn't able to get off work šŸ˜).

I love my cousins and these are memories we'll be able to cherish forever ❤️.

THIS WORKS Products I've Tried & Want To Try

In Transit No Traces PadsI have raved about the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray for a few years now. It's one of my all-time favorites. In my Fab Fit Fun box the past couple times I've received some other This Works products which has made me fall completely in love with this line. If I could use just this brand for the rest of my life, I would be very happy.

My Quarantine In Snapshots Part Six

This is going to be my last "quarantine in snapshots" because as things start to open back up it doesn't really make sense to show my "quarantine" life when I'm with friends and family. But I did love compiling all of these videos into one for me (and you) to look back on some day. So instead, I'm going to make it  a more seasonal or even-based thing. For instance, the next one I've started saving videos for is called "My Fall in Snapshots" šŸ‚. It has a nice ring to it and I'm sure as other things start to happen I will be able to compile all of those photos and videos from that time and share it in one central place.

How I Style Thrift Finds: Cheetah Tank Top

I am so excited to keep this series going and so thankful to my photographer Danya who is able to bring my vision to life with these photographs. Just like a thrifted piece, you have to have some sort of vision and creativity to make a piece work. You'll [almost never] find a piece that is ready-to-wear, but if you use a little bit of imagination and a little love, you can repurpose clothing items into a piece you can wear with almost anything!

That was the case for this cheetah/leopard crop tank top. I was stunned to find a newer label in the thrift store. This shirt is from the Wild Fable line at Target and the tags were still on it. Here's the thing though, this tank was labeled a medium. I always shake my head in disbelief because this tank could barely pass as a small, let alone a size medium. That's why I love thrifting because I look in all the aisles (small, medium, large and even men's clothing racks) because the way things are sized in departments stores (like Target) are way off at times. This tank, even though it was new, had some flaws though. For one, it's extremely thin and as I said does not fit a traditional "medium." It also had a lot of loose strings that I had to cut and a knot by the straps that I had to get undone. After all is said and done though, it was a great $2.99 that I spent! There's no way I would have spent the original $14 for this shirt (as the original price tag said) because it was not worth that money. It was definitely worth the three dollars though, because this tank is perfect for those happy hour/going out nights. It can work in the summer time or in the fall when paired with a cardigan.

For this look, I felt it was more appropriate–given that it's summer–to pair it with a more edgier look. I felt serious "waiting for the taxi/uber" to pick us up from the bar type of look. Pairing the tank with my favorite black jeans and black booties and my gold 1993 necklace, both from Amazon. This outfit, as simple as it was, needed some love.

You shouldn't just buy a piece because it's "cheap" especially if it needs some work or cleaning up. However, you also shouldn't have to clean up an item too much (aka stains or holes). But a simple tank like this that can be used anytime of the year, in a multitude of ways for just $3 is a great deal.

I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT!

I can't believe I'm writing this blog post right now but I'm going to be an aunt!! My brother and his girlfriend Ana, who has been featured on this page more than once, just announced that they're pregnant! They surprised all of their family and friends (minus my parents of course) at a family cookout we had the other day. I knew that they were announcing that they closed on their new home, but what I wasn't expecting was part 2 and 3 of that announcement. Not only did they announce that Ana's pregnant, but that this cookout is actually a gender reveal!

You can see in the video down below that I had completely shocked! Everyone thought I already knew, but I didn't. You can hear me asking "Is this serious?" a million times and my crying as I stop recording and break down instead (shout out to my cousin Keith for consoling me when I was becoming hysterical!). A lot of the weirdness going on lately had started to make sense and what I thought was just a normal day turned into a life changing moment. I can't wait to be an aunt and I'm going to spoil the crap out of this little baby.

Oh! And it's a girl! I was so thrilled when I saw that because I knew how bad they wanted it to have a girl as their first child (they've talked about children for years, that's why I knew this). The next day I went shopping with them at our favorite thrift store and I found so many cute girl clothes. Seriously I wish I could find some of these items in my size, because they were perfect. I also found some baby books and I just realized wow–I already love spoiling this sweet baby.

I can only image–given how emotional and how much love I have for this child already–how my brother and sis-in-law are feeling. Congratulations and "I love you's" simply aren't enough. I can't wait to see Patrick & Ana become amazing parents, I'm so happy and love you both very much!

How I Style Thrift Finds: Graphic T-Shirt

In the past I have shared that I find some great items while thrifting, but what I don't share is how I style them. The thing about thrifting, is 1. You never know what you're going to find and 2. You'll never find a "perfect ready-to-wear" piece. I mean you might, but its rare. You can't plan what you're going to find you walk into a thrift store–you can manifest something (like Rocio when she found the perfect pair of white ski pants and winter coat)–but you can't be too bummed if you walk out with nothing. It just happens sometimes, but sometimes you walk out feeling like you struck the motherlode.

10-Day Challenge with Hempathy + GIVEAWAY

Today I'm sharing another skincare review and hosting a giveaway with some of the products! I love, love, love testing out new skincare products because I have combination skin and battle with cystic acne, I'm always looking for new and refreshing products to put into my skincare routine. In the past year I have been more open to CBD and Hemp products, more than I ever have been in my life. I'm starting to see why these products are so wildly popular and the benefits from them. So when I received a campaign deal with Hempathy I was instantly intrigued.

In the PR package I received 4 full-size products + 4 sample sizes of the products. These products are cruelty-free and made in the USA. I tested out all of the products for 10-days and focused on my health (mental + physical). By combining a healthy mindset and focusing on using clean and natural products like Hempathy, I was able to see a difference in not only my skin but I just glowed differently overall.

Exfoliating Scrub
I have to start with my favorite product. Everyone needs a good facial scrub especially on a day where you are more active than others. It really gets into the gritty stuff on your face and cleans it out. I also like when I can feel a scrub and the beads in this product are larger and I feel like I'm really scrubbing away the dirt. I used this product for 10-days straight and saw a difference in my skin. I have pretty large pores (even though I almost never get blackheads) and after using this product consistently for over a week, I saw a difference in my pores. They appeared smaller and cleaner throughout the week. This product is more expensive than I usually pay for a face wash, but I would definitely consider repurchasing if I notice a big difference in my acne after by the time I run out of this product.

Refreshing Eye Cream
This eye cream is hands down the silkiest eye cream I have ever used. I'm used to using more gel based eye creams, but this was soft and creamy. Of course a little goes a long way, but this pump does not allow for just a "little" to come out. Keep that in mind when trying to pump some of the product out because it comes out fast and string like. I think packaging for eye cream is best as a container not a pump, but that's just my opinion. As far as the product itself, it's a good product. I don't have anything bad to say about it, but I also don't have a lot to say about it. I just don't think 10-days is enough time to see a difference with testing out a new eye cream. It did make my eyes soft though because of how soft it is!

Revitalizing Body Lotion
I'd like to start this review by saying I am extremely picky when it comes to body lotions. I typically do not like a lot of body lotions either because of the scent or thickness of the product. If a lotion is too water-based for me, I don't care for it most of the time. I really stick to the same 2-3 lotions I buy and even though I won't be purchasing this specific product down the road, doesn't mean you won't like it. It's not that I didn't like it, it just doesn't work for my skin type. The smell was fine, it wasn't too perfumey or leave any weird lingering smells. I just prefer a thicker lotion and just like the eye cream, I don't think 10-days is long enough to see a drastic change. I also saw this on the website and maybe I was using it wrong, but according to the website it's a type of body lotion you should use while in the shower. "Best used after a shower to help lock in moisture and maintain optimum hydration levels.  Allow it to absorb into your skin for ultimate protection and hydration."

Rejuvenating Face Oil
You all know I love my facial oils. I typically buy the $10 ones from TJ Maxx and that's not going to change. Even though this facial oil was really nice and definitely left my skin glowing, I don't know about the price. I feel as though there are probably other facial oils that give the same effect but for cheaper šŸ¤·šŸ¼‍♀️. Maybe I'm wrong, but I still liked this facial oil. It left my skin feeling soft and honestly quite glowing. I usually do facial oils at night with a night cream and it blended well with everything. I think that this product combined with the facial scrub–used over a long period of time–will show results.
