NYE IN NYC

It was a very Merry Christmas in the Katsaris household and I am one lucky gal because for Christmas Omar surprised me with a trip to New York City for New Year's Eve!  This has been something that I have wanted to do for a very long time now and I can't believe he even remembered me saying that, because I don't even remember telling him!  He truly out did himself.  It was a marvelous trip and we did so much!  I've been to New York before, Omar hasn't, but I've never done the "tourist" type stuff.
We packed in several stops in a small amount of time.  We drove down on Wednesday and without hesitating went to Time Square to take in the city.  Omar was obsessed with all the billboards and lights, it was so cute.  We then went to McGee's Irish Pub & Grill, which is the inspiration for MacLaren's Bar from How I Met Your Mother.  The restaurant was filled with memorabilia from the show, signed posters, and ton of pictures.  They had special drinks named from inside jokes from the show.  I had The Pineapple Incident and it was ah-mazing!  Thursday is when we packed a lot of our trip in.  We started the morning by going to the One World Trade Center & the memorial site for the Twin Towers.  Afterwards, we walked around the Financial District and Wall Street.  Omar ate so many hot dogs from street vendors and of course I just had to walk into Tiffany's.  Next stop was SoHo where I could not resist going in to DASH and spending too much money (worth it).  We had some delicious New York pizza and went to a few museums.  The best part of Thursday, New Year's Eve, was that we got to Time Square around 11:30PM and it was packed.  We couldn't even see the ball because all the streets were blocked off.  Omar pulled the Military card and they let us in.  We passed check point after check point until our final check point had to police escort us in and we were sent to the front.  We literally passed people who had been waiting in line for hours and we stood between the concert stage and the stage where Ryan Seacrest was doing interviews.  We counted down to midnight and celebrated with New York in Time Squares.  I can officially cross that off my bucket list.  I was sad when we had to leave the next morning, but we had one more stop- Statue of Liberty.  I had never been before and felt it was long over due.  Plus, I found my great grandpa's information from when he came over through New York.  The trip was overall exciting and adventurous.  The best part was that I got to experience everything with Omar.  I know that we will be back again soon.
